Yes, the garden is now indeed in full swing with small harvests ready daily! With the amazing hot days last week and a steady period with no rain the garden took off running. The weather provided just the boost it needed! Now we have wonderful straightneck summer squash, red tomatoes, Boothbay Blonde cucumbers, zinnias and even some pumpkins emerging. All of the greens are flourishing right along and as they welcome all the new veggies!
Most excitingly, last week's first farm stand was a great success! We were able to share our harvest and enjoy the wonderful tradition of a farmers market style gathering right here on campus! All of the profits went directly back to the garden to ensure sustaining our community garden project for the future!
Although harvest time also indicates things will soon begin to wind down we have many new beginnings to look forward to at the garden as well. There will be various class related projects going on this up coming semester such as science tests and analysis, writing and photography class work as well as community service volunteer hours opportunities all at the garden!
Thanks so much to everyone for all of the support, involvement and love the garden has been receiving all summer long. It's going to be a wonderful fall!
