We had a very productive week and made great progress with the weeds in the garden. Each day we are able to clear a few more beds. The hot weather has put some stress on our well, which is no longer able to provide enough water for the plants. This means we have to bring water down to the garden in the truck. We fill large recycling bins in the back of the truck and then drive it down to the garden and pour it into the cistern. The water is stored in the cistern until we carry it to the plants with watering cans. It's a time consuming process, but it's our only option right now!
In addition to the weeds, we are also fighting a constant battle against several types of pests. We have had a few unwelcome rabbit visitors so we spent some time doing a perimeter check and patching holes in the fence. Those critters are very sneaky! We are continuing to sprinkle Garden Dust on the squash, zucchini, cucumbers, and pumpkins to help keep the cucumber beetles at bay as well.
